Ashley Young: Fine tackle put Rebic off his shooting stride and was scythed down by same man before break. Full of energy but tired as game wore on and taken off 6/10
Jesse Lingard: Started brightly with usual tricks and flicks.Wastefully wide with placed effort before break. Watched shot deflect over and fired across face of goal 6/10
Dele Alli: Buoyed by strike on Saturday and won early free-kick but influence on proceedings waned. Unable to dictate game as he often does in a Spurs shirt 6/10
Harry Kane: Enjoyed reunion with Lovren, winning early free kicks. Hit post from yards out and missed with late header 6/10
Raheem Sterling: Much-derided forward was intelligent with movement and running in and around Croatian back line. Replaced for final quarter of normal time 7/10
Jordan Pickford: Watched Perisic shot wide and held Rebic curler. Little chance with first but nervy moments almost costly. Fine save from Mandzukic – then beaten 7/10
Kyle Walker: Used athleticism well. Caught by Rebic but booked for holding on to the ball. Last-ditch block on Perisic shot before being beaten in air for the equaliser 7/10
John Stones: Crucial block from Rebic and stood up well to Croat crosses, which increased in frequency. Had header cleared off line but lost Mandzukic for winner 7/10
Jordan Henderson: Vice-captain moved across well to cover Trippier runs but struggled for support in middle at times as Croatia moved into ascendancy toward the end 7/10
Harry Maguire: Saturday’s hero was first to two early headers at England corners and Leicester man impressed with his aerial dominance at the back too 8/10
Kieran Trippier: Scored England’s latest set-piece special and offered threat bombing forward. Slack pass almost presented Croatia with a winner in normal time 8/10
Substitutes
Marcus Rashford brought fresh legs in place of Sterling while Danny Rose replaced Young for extra-time and Eric Dier came on for Henderson shortly after. Jamie Vardy played the final 10 minutes.
