Liverpool’s Premier League game against Leeds United at Anfield will not be live on TV in the UK despite originally being scheduled to be televised on BT Sport on Boxing Day.
The match was postponed following a Covid-19 outbreak in the Leeds squad earlier that month and has been rescheduled for Wednesday 23 February 23 at 7.45pm.
In its Boxing Day slot, BT Sport opted to broadcast Crystal Palace’s trip to the Tottenham Hotspur stadium to fill their TV schedule.
For a second consecutive week, Wednesday’s Premier League games will not be broadcasted or live streamed as they clash with BT Sport’s Champions League fixtures.
Only those inside Old Trafford could watch Manchester United’s 2-0 win over Brighton last week.
Jota and Firmino set to be saved for Sunday’s final
Liverpool’s hopes of a quadruple took a blow when Diogo Jota and Roberto Firmino sustained ankle and muscle injuries respectively in the 2-0 win over Inter Milan at the San Siro last Wednesday.
Both missed the weekend’s 3-1 win over Norwich and are ruled out for Leeds, but the injuries do not seem disastrous as they could be in contention to play the Carabao Cup final on Sunday against Chelsea.
Klopp said: “No, for tomorrow, no chance, and then [for] the final we will see. I don’t know in the moment.
“It would be easy to say now ‘no’, but we will see. They are [pushing] but they were not on the pitch for training [yet] so that’s not a good sign.
“We have to see what we can do with the boys in the next few days and then we make a decision later in the week.”
Joe Gomez made his first start since November 2020 as a full back partner to Konstantinos Tsimikas, allowing Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson a rare rest on Saturday.
When asked about his squad rotations the German manager said: “The need of this game. What this game and this team is asking for, because with the schedule we have we need today again a high energetic and intense performance and that’s only possible when you make changes and that’s why we did it.”
The Whites evidently miss their spine of Liam Cooper, Kalvin Phillips and Patrick Bamford as a relegation battle looms at Elland Road.
Despite Raphinha’s heroic efforts, Leeds have the ninth-lowest goals scored and the second-worst goal difference in the league (-21) – only better than relegation-favourites Norwich.
Phillips and Cooper aim to be available in March after sustaining hamstring injuries whilst Bamford still has no return date since worsening his injury celebrating an equaliser against Brentford in December.
Key player Robin Koch, who will miss Wednesday’s game, has been the subject of calls by the PFA for change in concussion rules as the 25-year-old played on despite a bloody collision with Scott McTominay on Sunday.
Marcelo Bielsa said: “In that moment, as it could not have been any other way, as the symptoms appeared after, we decided a change. As you should know, the symptoms with a clash like this take 24 hours to appear, so in the solution we all did what corresponded. Everything within the protocol.”
He was “convinced it was just bleeding from the cut”.
