BT Sport have apologised for showing an anti-monarchy banner in the Celtic end ahead of the club’s Champions League tie against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Pre-match footage broadcast a sign reading “f___ the Crown” before commentators apologised to viewers “if you’ve taken offence”.
Unlike in this week’s other matches featuring British sides, there was no minute’s silence following a meeting between Uefa and the two clubs before the game. Both sets of players wore black armbands as a mark of respect following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
The match was taking place in Warsaw due to the conflict in Ukraine, with Shakhtar allowed to display anti-war messages on screens.

“Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II will be honoured this evening at Ibrox with a minute’s silence, a display created by the Union Bears, and a rendition of the Nation Anthem,” a statement read.
“If you are attending tonight’s match, we encourage all supporters to be in their seat for 19.50pm”.
Napoli fans are unable to attend the game due to policing resources being stretched during the period of national mourning. In turn, Rangers fans will not be permitted to travel to the return tie.
