England Women’s squad: Full line-up for fixtures vs USA and Czech Republic as Euro 2022 stars miss out

Lionesses boss Sarina Wiegman has culled three players from this summer’s European Championship-winning squad ahead of next month’s sold-out Wembley tie against World Cup champions USA.

Arsenal’s Lotte Wubben-Moy, Chelsea’s Beth England and Manchester United’s Nikita Parris have not made the cut for the upcoming internationals, with Arsenal’s Jordan Nobbs also missing out having been recalled in September.

Wubben-Moy, England and Parris are yet to make an appearance in this season’s WSL.

Wiegman said: “There were hard conversations and hard choices. I had conversations with all the players who were in the squad before but are not now. I gave them some feedback and now they have to work and try to fight their way back in.”

Chelsea star Fran Kirby and Euros final hero Chloe Kelly have returned to the squad after missing the September internationals due to injury. There are also first senior call-ups for 23-year-old West Ham defender Lucy Parker and 20-year-old Everton loanee Jess Park.

Wiegman praised the potential debutant pair, saying: “We have followed Jess Park for a while. I think she can play up front but also in midfield. She is a little more dropping inside now. It is exciting for her.

“Lucy Parker is very athletic. She has had some injuries but has had good preparation and good games.”

Other notable omissions include former England captain Steph Houghton and Manchester United youngster Maya le Tissier.

Wiegman asserted that the “door was still open” for 34-year-old Houghton, who has not looked at her best for Manchester City since returning from another long injury lay-off.

Discussing 20-year-old centre-back Le Tissier, who scored twice in the first 25 minutes of her United debut, Wiegman added: “Maya did very good, it’s really nice that she scored but her main job is not scoring, it’s defending, it’s the build-up.

England will also face the Czech Republic at Brighton’s Amex Stadium four days after the US game. Discussing the matches, Wiegman said: “Playing the US, the No 1 in the world, is such a big occasion and another measurement for us of where we’re at.

“German and Spain were big opponents too so we will approach it the same way – play to win, accepting mistakes and hopefully play our style on the pitch.”
