Man Utd change stance on Jadon Sancho loan with Juventus frontrunners

Jadon Sancho could still leave Manchester United this summer after the club changed their stance on allowing him to be sent out on loan.

United were initially only interested in a permanent sale but could now let Sancho move elsewhere until the end of the season – with no obligation to buy – before next Friday’s deadline.

Given the 24-year-old has patched up his differences with boss Erik ten Hag, it appeared he was part of United’s plans for this season, with senior club sources adamant having a player of the England international’s talent in the squad is useful.

However, after he was left out of the squad for the opening match of the season against Fulham, i understands that he could leave on a temporary basis once more if a suitable loan offer came in – one with a fee the club agree is acceptable.

A permanent sale remains the preference for somewhere close to United’s asking price of £40m, or a loan move with an obligation to buy at the end of the season. However, all options are now on the table, should the deal work for all parties.

Juventus have held a long-standing interest in Sancho, but with funds tight around Europe due to stricter financial regulations, they are yet to make a bid.

Sources in Italy said they have explored all manner of deals, including a loan with an option to buy. In fact Juventus are frontrunners as they appear close to selling Italy forward Federico Chiesa, leaving a void in wide areas of their attacking unit.

Chelsea have expressed a fleeting interest but nothing concrete. They would have to clear their packed attacking department of several faces, including Raheem Sterling, if they were to consider making a move for Sancho. Barcelona are also understood to be keeping an eye on the situation.

The player himself, while not agitating for a move, is open to exploring his options, sources close to the Sancho camp confirmed. He is fully aware that after flattering to deceive since making a big-money move to United in 2021, he is at a crucial juncture in his career. Another poor season with little game time could cause lasting damage to his reputation.

United are under no pressure to sell and should be able to raise the funds to complete the missing piece of their summer transfer window puzzle – Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte – from other sales.

After spending the latter half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, where Sancho showed his best football only in glimpses, Sancho returned to Manchester at the end of the campaign and immediately reconciled with Ten Hag.

Their very public feud began when Sancho was dropped by Ten Hag for United’s match-up against Arsenal last September, with the manager indicating the decision was made due to Sancho underperforming in training.

The decision to dispute Ten Hag’s claim in public ensured Sancho’s United season ended there, and he did not make a United match squad for the remainder of the campaign.

Now back in the fold after featuring for the club in pre-season, it appeared a United revival was on the cards. Yet, a fully fit Sancho did not even make the bench for the 1-0 victory over Fulham last Friday.

Paris Saint-Germain were heavily linked with a move earlier in the window, but i has been told they are no longer interested, having completed the deal for exciting forward Desire Doue instead.

Midfielder Scott McTominay is the one likely to depart to free up funds for Ugarte. Napoli are pushing to secure the Scotland international’s services, i has been told, and United are expected to accept offers above £25m.

Others, such as Christian Eriksen and Victor Lindelof, could also be moved on.
