Transfer deadline day updates: Sancho wanted by Chelsea and Arsenal

Jadon Sancho, Raheem Sterling and Ivan Toney could all be on the move on as the summer transfer window draws to a close on deadline day.

It has been a quieter summer than usual in many fronts – thanks in no small part to a number of clubs being hamstrung by Profitability and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) – but the market has kicked into life again on the final day.

One deal that now looks unlikely is Marc Guehi to Newcastle United, with Crystal Palace refusing to budge on their £70m asking price.

Toney agrees Saudi move

After months of speculation, Ivan Toney will no longer be a Brentford player by the end of the day.

It looks most likely that he is moving to Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, with a £40m deal agreed. The contract is three years.

However, it can’t be ruled out that there will be one final late twist in this long-running saga, with a number of Premier League clubs still monitoring the England international’s situation.

…And speaking of his England career, a move to the Middle East would surely prove the end of his Three Lions ventures, as it eventually did for Jordan Henderson, with former boss Gareth Southgate expressing concerns over the impact of playing in a lower quality league on players’ fitness.

Guehi deal unlikely

Fascinating Eddie Howe press conference – arguably the most difficult of his tenure here. Howe says the club “won’t be closed for business right until the end” and they are still planning to be active.

But barring a major change in the final 13 hours of the transfer window, Marc Guehi will not be a Newcastle player because the price rose too high for the Magpies. A series of bids went in and there was optimism last week a deal could be done but Newcastle have walked away for PSR.

I asked Howe if that was because they couldn’t do the deal or because they were worried about what could happen in future windows: “A bit of both”.

Ugarte completes Man Utd medical

Manuel Ugarte has completed a medical to tick the final boxes of his Manchester United move.

The midfielder joins from Paris Saint-Germain in a £42m deal.

New overlords Ineos put their money where their mouth is early in their first summer transfer window to get pulses racing on the red half of Manchester, only for the threat of another year neglecting the position supporters most wanted investment in dampening spirits somewhat.

Arsenal target Sterling and Osimhen linked with Saudi Arabia

Good morning – it’s that time of year again.

The transfer window may have felt a little different this year. As Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe put it on Friday morning, “business will never be the same again” due to PSR.

However, that hasn’t stopped some clubs spending. Chelsea have been chasing striker Victor Osimhen all summer but he has reportedly agreed a deal to move to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli.

There are likely to be plenty of outs at Stamford Bridge, however, with Raheem Sterling and Ben Chilwell the headline names who are no longer part of Enzo Maresca’s plans. Stay tuned for more on that and what Sterling’s potential exit means for Jadon Sancho.
