Bad news often follows bad news, and when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s absence from Arsenal’s must-win match against Wolves on Wednesday was reported, fans feared the worst.
Unfortunately, that was exactly what happened with an abject performance from the Gunners who were comprehensively beaten by Nuno Espirito Santo’s team.
Unai Emery’s team are in need of a boost ahead of their match against Leicester City which could be provided by Aubameyang’s return.
How serious is the injury?
Any injury that keeps a striker out of an important game is obviously serious, but Arsenal confirmed on Thursday he had missed out after having a “small sinus procedure”.
The club added on Twitter that the Gabon star would be assessed ahead of Sunday’s game at the King Power stadium but that the procedure had gone well.
What next for Arsenal?
Aubameyang has been Arsenal’s stand out performer in another transitional year for the club, with his replacements against Wolves, Alex Iwobi and Henrikh Mkhitaryan, both having average seasons.
The London club’s recent domestic form has been appalling, losing 3-2 to Crystal Palace and escaping from Vicarage Road with a 1-0 victory over Watford in a game many thought they should have lost.
If Aubameyang misses out, their attacking threat will be reduced and another embarrassing defeat in a calamitous race for the top four could be on the cards.
Should I keep him in my FPL team?
Yes, it’s likely he will at least start on the substitute’s bench on Sunday and with Arsenal in desperate need of a win, he might be rushed back slightly ahead of time just in case.
However, any Arsenal player is a risk at this stage of the season with the club seemingly incapable of grabbing the race for fourth place by the scruff of the neck, so better options may be out there such as Liverpool’s Sadio Mane or Roberto Firmino who could have a field day against relegated Huddersfield.
