Fantasy Premier League tips: The 11 best players to sign for your FPL team in Gameweek 29

Gameweek 28 was a profitable one for plenty of Fantasy Premier League managers as numerous players racked up big scores during the latest round of Premier League fixtures.

Aston Villa’s Philippe Coutinho and Tottenham’s Harry Kane were the pick of i‘s selections last week, each earning 13 points, while the defensive double-up on Edouard Mendy and Antonio Rudiger also paid off as Chelsea kept a clean sheet at Turf Moor.

Although there are fewer clubs playing twice in Gameweek 29 compared to the previous gameweek, there are more exciting clubs to target with Arsenal, Liverpool and Spurs all doubling up. Given the form that those three clubs have shown in recent weeks, three players from each make this week’s line-up.

The full list of teams playing twice in Gameweek 29 is: Arsenal, Brighton, Everton, Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham. Due to matches taking place this Thursday, the Premier League calendar has an unusual look to it with only three matches being played on Saturday and six following on Sunday.

This week’s team costs £82.6m, just shy of the £83m weekly budget.

Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal)

Despite having a wobble recently, Aaron Ramsdale remains the most selected goalkeeper in FPL after providing excellent value this term. Only Ederson and Alisson have kept more clean sheets than Arsenal‘s No 1 this season and both are considerably more expensive. Although the Gunners have two tough games in Gameweek 29 against a resurgent Leicester and title-chasing Liverpool at the Emirates, they have the third-best home record in the league which could enhance Ramsdale’s prospects.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

Trent Alexander-Arnold edged ahead of teammate Mo Salah in the race to win the Premier League’s playmaker award – given to the player with the most assists – after notching an 11th of the campaign in last weekend’s 1-0 win against West Ham. Remarkably, Alexander-Arnold has created 28 more chances than any other defender in the league and he is also second for shots on goal (40). Despite competing on multiple fronts, Jurgen Klopp is unlikely to rest his MVPs as Liverpool seek to overhaul Man City at the top of the table.

Price: £8.5m Points: 174 Gameweek 29 fixture(s): Brighton (a), Arsenal (a)

Matt Doherty (Spurs)

Are Tottenham finally starting to see the real Matt Doherty? On the evidence of the past couple of games, it certainly looks that way. Doherty has played a pivotal role in his side’s recent thrashings of Leeds and Everton, scoring and providing an assist in a 4-0 win against the former and setting up Harry Kane twice in a 5-0 victory over the latter. Over the past two gameweeks, Doherty has accumulated more FPL points (32) than any other player and ranks top among all defenders for expected goals (0.79).

Reece James (Chelsea)

It was as if he’d never left. Making his first Premier League start in almost two months, Reece James reminded FPL managers why he was such a great asset in the first half of the season, by scoring a goal and assisting Kai Havertz during Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Burnley. Cesar Azpilicueta has been a superb servant for Chelsea down the years, but there is no doubt that Thomas Tuchel’s team is significantly stronger with James flying forward from right wing-back. The England international is the only single gameweek player named in this week’s side.

Price: £6.2m Points: 109 Gameweek 29 fixture: Newcastle (h)

Andy Robertson (Liverpool)

Although Liverpool’s fixtures in Gameweek 29 aren’t the easiest, especially their second game away to a red-hot Arsenal, it would take a brave FPL manager to go without tripling up on their players given it will be a popular strategy. Assuming Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mo Salah are auto-selections, there is just one spot left to fill and despite plenty of competition, Andy Robertson looks to be the pick of the bunch. The left-back has provided attacking or clean sheet returns in each of his last seven games.

Price: £7.2m Points: 124 Gameweek 29 fixture(s): Brighton (a), Arsenal (a)

Dejan Kulusevski (Spurs)

Tottenham have made plenty of costly mistakes in the transfer market over the past few seasons, but in Dejan Kulusevski they appear to have struck gold. The 21-year-old has slotted seamlessly into Antonio Conte’s starting line-up and struck up an effective partnership with his fellow attackers Son Heung-min and Harry Kane. Over the past four gameweeks, Kulusevski has scored twice and provided three assists, averaging 7.75 FPL points per match. At almost £5m cheaper and with a significantly lower ownership, he is an attractive alternative to the more mainstream Son among Spurs’ midfielders.

Price: £6.1m Points: 34 Gameweek 29 fixture(s): Man Utd (a), Brighton (a)

Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)

The poster boy for a thrilling young Arsenal team that is going places fast. Bukayo Saka has long been earmarked as a potential star of the future but his performance during Arsenal’s 3-2 win against Watford showed he is already one of the best wingers in the Premier League. Saka scored a goal and provided an assist in that game taking him to 13 direct goal contributions for the season, more than any other player aged 21 or under. Only Jarrod Bowen has accrued more FPL points among midfielders under £7m.

Mo Salah (Liverpool)

Although the fixtures aren’t quite as generous this time around, FPL managers only need to cast their minds back to Gameweek 26 to remind themselves of how lethal Mo Salah can be in a double gameweek. Salah scored three times and registered an assist in victories over Norwich and Leeds to help himself to a huge 28-point haul, much to the delight of those who captained or even triple captained him that week. Based on that showing and his sky-high ownership, Salah is likely to be the leading armband contender once more.

Anthony Gordon (Everton)

“There is nothing positive about tonight other than Anthony Gordon,” was Frank Lampard’s bleak if accurate assessment of Everton’s performance during their 5-0 mauling at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. It was a wretched team display littered with individual mistakes, but while many senior pros went missing, Gordon did at least try to take the game to Spurs. The 20-year-old has managed two 14-point scores in his previous four home matches, which bodes well for meetings with Wolves and Newcastle at Goodison Park.

Harry Kane (Spurs)

Harry Kane has bordered upon unplayable in recent weeks and is gradually becoming an essential pick in FPL once more. Over the past four gameweeks, Kane has scored five goals, provided an assist and earned three double-digit returns much to the delight of his FPL managers. Since Gameweek 26, Kane has over double the number of points than any other forward in the game. Quite simply, he is a must-have for Tottenham’s double gameweek and the obvious captain rival to Salah.

Alexandre Lacazette (Arsenal)

When Alexandre Lacazette moved to Arsenal from Lyon for a club-record fee, the expectation was that the club had acquired a penalty box poacher based on his goalscoring record in France. Lacazette struck 27, 21 and 28 goals respectively in his final three Ligue 1 seasons but during his time in England, he has evolved into a more rounded centre forward. That’s evidenced by his stats this season: in 20 league appearances, he has three goals and seven assists. With seven assists in his last nine matches, Lacazette has made a huge contribution to his team despite an unusual lack of goals.
