Analysis: League Cup is still Manchester City’s to lose
Such is Manchester City’s domination of this competition in recent years that Phil Foden even has a dog called Carabao, and it is difficult to look past the England international picking up a fifth winners’ medal this season.
Winners in 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021, their four-year winning streak was ended by West Ham last season, but this time around they look in the mood once more having knocked out two rivals already.
In the third round, they beat Chelsea 2-0 at home, and in the fourth round they prevailed 3-2 in an entertaining encounter against Liverpool – also at the Etihad.
Next, it is Southampton away on Wednesday. No guarantee, but a tie they should win, and with bookmakers placing City as odds-on favourites to win this cup again, it would appear few are betting against Pep Guardiola’s side from renewing their love affair with the Carabao Cup.
