Tottenham confirm appointment of new manager Ange Postecoglou on four-year deal

Tottenham have confirmed the appointment of new head coach Ange Postecoglou on a four-year contract.

The Australian leaves Celtic after a hugely successful two-year spell, winning five trophies including back-to-back Scottish Premiership titles.

“Ange brings a positive mentality and a fast, attacking style of play,” said Spurs chairman Daniel Levy.

“He has a strong track record of developing players and an understanding of the importance of the link from the academy – everything that is important to our Club. We are excited to have Ange join us as we prepare for the season ahead.”

Postecoglou, who is the first Australian to manage in the Premier League, agreed terms on Monday, two days after Celtic’s victory over Inverness Caledonian Thistle in the Scottish Cup final.

The Hoops are expected to receive around £5m in compensation.

The 57-year-old’s arrival ends a managerial search of over two months at Tottenham following the sacking of Antonio Conte in March.

Arne Slot and Julian Nagelsmann were both considered but Slot opted to extend his Feyenoord contract and early talks with Nagelsmann broke down.

Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini was initially given the role of interim manager but he was sacked after just four games and replaced with Ryan Mason.

It is Postecoglou’s first time managing in one of the “Big Five” European leagues, and prior to joining Celtic his only experience in Europe was in charge of third-tier Greek side Panachaiki.

However, he has enjoyed success with the Australian national team, winning the 2015 Asia Cup and qualifying for the 2014 World Cup, and winning titles with Brisbane Roar, South Melbourne and Japanese side Yokohama F Marinos.
