The 2022-23 season has only just finished but some Premier League clubs are already thinking about the upcoming 2023-24 campaign by getting some early deals in the summer transfer market.
Despite rallying impressively in the final few weeks, Liverpool had a season to forget after finishing 5th but they are already moving on from that disappointment by bolstering Jurgen Klopp’s squad with the signing of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
The Argentine World Cup winner has joined the Reds for an initial £35m fee which could rise to £55m if certain bonuses and clauses are met during his time at Anfield.
Mac Allister will wear the No 10 shirt for his new club and will help plug the gaps in Liverpool’s squad left by the departing James Milner, Naby Keita, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.
Brighton, who will play in Europe for the first time in their history next season, made Joao Pedro their club-record signing back in May with the Brazilian forward joining for £30m from Watford. They have also been linked with Milner following his release by Liverpool.
Aston Villa also have continental football to look forward to and have snapped up Youri Tielemans on a free following Leicester’s relegation. Elsewhere, Brentford have bought Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flekken as a replacement for David Raya, who has been linked with a move to Tottenham.
James Maddison is also wanted by Ange Postecoglou but Spurs face stiff competition for his signature from Newcastle who have the added allure of Champions League football. It looks set to be a busy summer in north London with Harry Kane once again being linked with a move elsewhere, perhaps to Real Madrid.
Despite spending over £600m in the first year of Todd Boehly’s ownership, Chelsea are expected to be busy again after Mauricio Pochettino’s appointment. The Blues could have a position to fill in midfield with Mason Mount tipped to join Manchester United.
