Southgate’s waistcoat has also captured in the imagination of Three Lions fans, who have been imitating his iconic style as sales of the item have rocketed at Marks and Spencer.

Marks and Spencer are the official suppliers of formal wear to the England team and the waistcoat Southgate wears is available in stores and online for £65, while the tailored three piece suit is available for £264.

Marks and Spencer have seized upon the popularity of the style and have been promoting the product with images of Southgate celebrating victories in the tournament.

The company also launched a campaign for a National Waistcoat Day ahead of the quarter-final match against Sweden, and asked people to tweet on the hashtag #luckywaistcoat.
England will play Croatia in the semi-final of the World Cup on 11 July at 7pm BST, in the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow.
The stadium will also host the final on 15 July.
