Kevin De Bruyne was ‘unstoppable’ against Wolves and marked masterclass with Erling Haaland celebration

Pep Guardiola described Kevin De Bruyne as “unstoppable, brilliant, awesome, outstanding, perfect” after the playmaker scored four of Manchester City’s five goals at Molineux.

City’s attack laid down a welcome to summer signing Erling Haaland with a 5-1 victory over Wolves that restored a three-point lead over Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table.

“Kevin always had the ability to create the special things,” Guardiola said.

“Always we push him to say he is an incredible player, generous with assists, but he has to score goals and this season is the most prolific he has had since we are together.

“We spoke to him about running into the box and being closer to the box and this season he has done it better and better.”

De Bruyne even reeled out Haaland’s famous “meditation” celebration.

For City’s rivals, this is a forward line that hardly needed any added spice despite Guardiola so often opting to field no recognised striker. The addition of Haaland, signed in a £51m deal from Borussia Dortmund, will change the dynamics but will surely only make De Bruyne even more effective.

“I am very pleased for him because of course scoring four goals in the decisive part of the league right now is so important,” Guardiola added.

“Hopefully it will continue, not just this season but for the rest of his career – I have a feeling that he has started to enjoy scoring goals.

“Before it was just assists, but now I think he likes it – he likes it when his team-mates come to hug him.”
