Mason Mount contract: Chelsea set to reward star midfielder with bumper new deal once takeover is complete

Chelsea are preparing to reward Mason Mount with a new contract that reflects his value as one of the world’s leading attacking midfielders, i can reveal.

The 23-year-old has established himself as one of England’s most important players and has already won multiple trophies, including the Champions League.

Chelsea have been keen to extend his contract, which expires in 2024, but have been unable to finalise any new deals since being placed under special measures as a result of owner Roman Abramovich being sanctioned by the Government for links to Russian president Vladimir Putin.

Mount was a key player in England’s run to the Euro 2020 final but is still one of Chelsea’s lowest earners, on wages of around £80,000 per week. He is expected to more than double that under a new agreement that will be permitted once the Chelsea sale has been completed to a consortium led by American Todd Boehly, who has attended recent matches.

Mount was recently named Chelsea’s player of the season during a campaign in which they won the Super Cup and Club World Cup and secured third place in the Premier League. Despite huge off-field upheaval Mount recorded 11 goals and 10 assists in the Premier League this season.

He is highly-regarded by the club due to the fact he has played for them since he was six years old and is a leading example of Chelsea’s hugely successful academy.

The England international would have had the pick of clubs if he became available, with Real Madrid among those who have paid attention to his rise to prominence.

When Chelsea’s ownership issue emerged in the spring, it alerted some of Europe’s biggest clubs who see Mount as one of the best attacking midfielders in the Premier League.

But i can reveal Mount’s sole focus through a difficult season has been on continuing his Chelsea career. And he now wants to commit his long-term future to Stamford Bridge under new owners who are intent on improving the squad to bring them to a level where they can challenge Liverpool and Manchester City.

Mount is seen as the perfect age to build a team around and it would be a sizeable coup for the new regime to secure his future – as well as a statement of intent. Those who have worked with Mount speak highly about his dedication to his craft and believe he can improve further under the tutelage of Tuchel.

It speaks volumes, also, of his feeling for Chelsea and belief in the next phase of the club’s future that he is prepared to wait for the ownership issues to be fully resolved to start contract negotiations which – one source close to potential talks believes – could be completed “fairly rapidly”.

“He is full of quality and he has a blue heart. Mason loves the club, he loves Chelsea. That is how he plays and that is why he has our full support. He is always switched on and ready to push himself to the limit and that is the foundation as to why he gets our full support, because he deserves it.”
