Kai Havertz was not named in Chelsea’s FA Cup final squad to face Liverpool after suffering a hamstring injury.
The forward failed a late test ahead of the Blues’ fourth cup final under Thomas Tuchel.
However, Mateo Kovacic was passed fit having been a doubt following a dangerous lunge from Dan James in midweek which earned the Leeds midfielder a red card. Tuchel had conceded earlier this week that Kovacic needed a “miracle” to play.
Mason Mount and Christian Pulisic started behind Romelu Lukaku, while Trevoh Chalobah was a surprise inclusion in defence, with Cesar Azpilicueta on the bench.
Thiago Silva became the oldest outfield player to start the final for 18 years, with Antonio Rudiger making up the rest of the back three.
Liverpool were missing Fabinho as expected. Thiago Alcantara, who was in tears at missing the League Cup final against Chelsea in February after suffering a last-minute injury in the warm-up, was named in Jurgen Klopp’s starting XI.
