The summer transfer window closes at 11pm on Thursday evening as Premier League clubs looks to conclude the business of reinforcing their squads.
The 20 English top-flight sides have already run up a net spend of over £1.3bn this summer as the world’s foremost football division continues to expand its glutenous collection of stars.
Nottingham Forest have been the most active club in the market so far this summer with 18 incomings, while Leicester City have made the fewest moves with one. Manchester United have already completed the most expensive deadline day transfer in football history this morning, securing the signature of winger Antony from Ajax for £86m.
Here is everything you need to know about the possible deals ahead – and those which have been completed on deadline day.
Who could move on deadline day?
Liverpool are reportedly attempting to sign Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo on a season-long loan, as their attempt to reinforce their midfield reached desperation levels following the hamstring injury suffered by captain Jordan Henderson in the 2-1 victory over Newcastle United on Wednesday evening. The 26-year-old has been out of favour since moving to Turin from Barcelona in 2020 and manager Massimiliano Allegri is believed to want the Brazilian off the club’s wage bill.
Another Brazilian midfielder could be on the move too, as Arsenal line up a potential deal for Aston Villa‘s Douglas Luiz. The 24-year-old scored against the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night, and the fact that his contract is due to expire in a year’s time could mean struggling Villa are willing to accept a reduced fee. Like Jurgen Klopp, Mikel Arteta wants to add depth in midfield due to injury concerns.
Elsewhere, Chelsea are close to completing a deal for Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, bringing the Gabon international back to London after he left Arsenal to move to Barcelona. The Blues have also been linked with a move for Ajax defensive midfielder Edson Alvarez.
Lower down the division, West Ham United are trying to sign Southampton defender Jan Bednarek, with Saints interested in Rennes centre-back Loic Bade if that deal comes off. Leeds United have approached Wolverhampton Wanderers over striker Hwang-hee Chan, meanwhile, and Fulham have made an offer for Blackburn Rovers frontman Ben Brereton-Diaz.
