Congratulations to all Fantasy Premier League managers who triple captained Marcus Rashford for his 20-point Double Gameweek 22 haul and commiserations to all who didn’t.
Another Double Gameweek is almost immediately upon us and with it comes a shot at redemption and a potential opportunity to use your Triple Captain chip on Erling Haaland.
However, the prolific Norwegian does not make this week’s picks – already owned by 85.4 per cent of all players, we can only assume that if you don’t already own him, you never will.
For the non-fantasy football addled brain, Arsenal’s midweek clash with second-placed Man City is the pick of this week’s fixtures, but to most FPL managers, it’s an inconvenience given both teams’ favourable first fixtures.
There are some concerns that City players may be distracted after the events of this week, but that won’t stop their players from being brought in in their droves.
Gameweek 22 top scorers
Goalkeepers:
- Arrizabalaga (Chelsea), Lloris (Spurs) – 10
- Navas (Forest) – 9
Defenders:
- Tarkowski (Everton) – 15
- Mee (Brentford) – 13
- Dawson (Wolves) – 12
- Henry (Brentford), Kilman (Wolves) – 11
Midfielders:
- Rashford (Man Utd) – 20
- Fernandes (Man Utd) – 12
- Mitoma (Brighton), Neves (Wolves) – 11
Forwards:
- Iheanacho (Leicester) – 15
- Mbeumo (Brentford) – 12
- Watkins (Aston Villa), Gnonto (Leeds) – 11
Other stand-out fixtures include Newcastle’s visit to 19th-placed Bournemouth, alongside Spurs’ visit to chaos merchants Leicester.
Alongside Haaland, other excellent options such as Rashford or Kieran Trippier do not feature in this week’s picks due to their high ownership and regular selection.
The deadline this week is 11am on Saturday.

Fraser Forster (Spurs)
With Hugo Lloris ruled out for six-to-eight weeks with a knee injury, Spurs appear set to hand the starting gloves to Fraser Forster. Although he only has one Premier League appearance under his belt this season, the giant stopper is perfectly placed to take advantage of a kind run of fixtures.
Starting at the King Power on Saturday, Spurs then face West Ham, Chelsea, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and Everton before Lloris is expected to return. Alongside this, Forster is the second-cheapest keeper in the game and has performed well when called upon so far this season.
Price: 3.9m Points: 2 Gameweek 23 fixture: Leicester (a)
Rico Lewis (Man City)
Another budget pick, 18-year-old Rico Lewis seems to have Pep Guardiola’s full trust ahead of a double gameweek for the Citizens. While he has competition for his right-back spot from Kyle Walker, Lewis played 90 minutes at Spurs last time out and can also be used as a left-back.
The alternative options from the City defence are Nathan Ake and Manuel Akanji, with Ake perhaps the surest starter, but costing 1.2m more than Lewis.
Price: 3.9m Points: 15 Gameweek 23 fixture: Villa (h), Arsenal (a)
Craig Dawson (Wolves)
Ballon d’Orson is back, now in a gold kit befitting his nickname. A debut goal and clean sheet against Liverpool earned the veteran centre-back 12 points, and his Wolves side now travel to beleaguered Southampton.
Known for his set-piece prowess throughout his career, Dawson joins a defence that now has two clean sheets in its last three games and the best possible fixture ahead this weekend.
Price: 4.8m Points: 28 Gameweek 23 fixture: Southampton (a)
Pervis Estupinan (Brighton)
For all the hype around Kaoru Mitoma’s form since Roberto de Zerbi joined Brighton, another major beneficiary has been Pervis Estupinan. The Ecuadorian has 21 points from his last three games, including two clean sheets and two assists.
The Seagulls visit a Palace side without a win in six games, and Estupinan’s left-sided combination with Mitoma could cause the Eagles havoc on Saturday.
Price: 4.6m Points: 49 Gameweek 23 fixture: Crystal Palace (a)
Riyad Mahrez (Man City)
The FPL community are split on whether to bring in Mahrez or Kevin de Bruyne this week, but the Algerian has form on his side. We all know what the Belgian is capable of, but his form post-World Cup has been uninspiring and he has been benched for two of City’s last three league matches.
Meanwhile, Mahrez has started six of City’s seven league games post-World Cup, bagging three goals and four assists in that run. The Algerian has made that right-wing spot his own and bringing him in for nearly 5m less than de Bruyne should reap rewards.
Price: 7.7m Points: 68 Gameweek 23 fixture: Villa (h), Arsenal (a)
Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)
Although his form has waned slightly since his four double-digit hauls in five gameweeks earlier in the season, Odegaard is still a fantastic option, especially with a double gameweek ahead. The key to Arsenal’s creativity, he has only blanked once in a home match since Gameweek 10.
Breaking down well-organised sides like Brentford and Man City will not be easy, but Odegaard is likely to provide the key to allow Arsenal to do it.
Price: 7.0m Points: 119 Gameweek 23 fixture: Brentford (h), Man City (h)
Bukayo Saka (Arsenal)
Picking between Odegaard and Saka is incredibly tough, so we didn’t do it. Since Gameweek 17, Saka has created more chances than any other Arsenal player, while also taking 12 shots in the box, second only to Gabriel Martinelli.
On penalties and Arsenal’s talisman, doubling up with Odegaard and Saka will almost guarantee results as the Gunners look to overcome a minor blip after their 1-0 loss to Everton.
Price: 8.3m Points: Gameweek 23 fixture: Brentford (h), Man City (h)
Bruno Fernandes (Man Utd)
With two ten-point hauls in the past four matches and three goals and three assists in his last seven games, Fernandes has rediscovered some of the form that made him the FPL top points scorer in 2020/21.
Still owned by just 14.3 per cent of players, Fernandes offers an excellent differential alternative to Rashford after United face managerless Leeds for the second time in five days.
Price: 9.9m Points: 99 Gameweek 23 fixture: Leeds (a)
Harry Kane (Spurs)
Now Spurs’ all-time record goalscorer, Kane has an excellent chance to add some more on Saturday. Leicester have conceded six goals in their past three games, while Spurs have now won three on the bounce.
Conte’s side look a different team with Dejan Kulusevski available once more and Kane is the second top scorer so far this season, with an incredible 17 goals in 22 games. If you want a differential to Haaland, or a big name to join him up front, Kane is your man.
Price: 11.7m Points: 148 Gameweek 23 fixture: Leicester (a)
Eddie Nketiah (Arsenal)
An Arsenal double-up wasn’t enough for you? Try a triple. Given Nketiah’s last home performance was his match-winning brace against Man Utd, there’s no reason to think the budget forward can’t explode in Double Gameweek 23.
The Gunners’ guaranteed starting striker for both their matches, Nketiah is still owned by less than 10 per cent of players and could help fire you up the ranks.
Price: 6.8m Points: 44 Gameweek 23 fixture: Brentford (h), Man City (h)
Callum Wilson (Newcastle)
Finally back to full fitness and fresh from a goal against West Ham, Wilson is capable of firing Newcastle’s ailing attack back into form.
Bournemouth have conceded the most goals of any Premier League side this season and are without a win since the World Cup. The Cherries should provide Wilson with plenty of chances to score big in Double Gameweek 23.
Price: 7.1m Points: 70 Gameweek 23 fixture: Bournemouth (a)
