Manchester United will launch its own investigation into the allegations made against Mason Greenwood following the decision to drop all charges against the 21-year-old.
i understands Greenwood will not play or train with the club until that process has been completed.
In a statement, United said: “Manchester United notes the decision of the Crown Prosecution Service that all charges against Mason Greenwood have been dropped. The club will now conduct its own process before determining next steps. We will not make any further comment until that process is complete.”
The club are as yet unsure as to how long enquiries will take.
Greenwood was arrested in January 2022 and was later charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behaviour and assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
Those charges were dropped on Thursday after the Crown Prosecution Service confirmed key witnesses had withdrawn from the investigation.
