Gary Lineker will not be hosting the BBC’s FA Cup quarter-final coverage on Sunday, after losing his voice.
The Match of the Day pundit returned to presenting on Saturday, after he was removed earlier this month following an impartiality row with the BBC.
On Sunday he said he had been “silenced… literally, by a nasty cold” and would not be in Brighton for the match.
Former England player and presenter Alex Scott will present the coverage of the match between Brighton & Hove Albion and Grimsby Town on BBC One from 1.50pm instead.
BBC Sport said Mr Lineker’s voice had deteriorated overnight, necessitating “a line-up change” of its presenters for the quarter-final.
Lineker struggled with a croaky voice on Saturday while commentating on the Manchester City vs Burnley game.
The presenter – who is BBC Sport’s highest-paid presenter – has been embroiled in a dispute over impartiality rules.
The row followed a critical tweet Linker sent on the government’s asylum policy, describing it as an “immeasurably cruel policy directed at the most vulnerable people in language that is not dissimilar to that used by Germany in the 30s”.
As a result, the BBC took him off air saying that he had broken social media guidelines.
Upon returning to TV screens on Saturday, he said it was “great to be here”, while fellow present and BBC Sport colleague Alan Shearer said it had been a “difficult situation for everyone concerned”.
