Cristiano Ronaldo ‘big doubt’ for Ralf Rangnick’s first Man Utd game amid fears celebration caused knee injury

Cristiano Ronaldo could be out of Ralf Rangnick’s first match in the Manchester United dugout after reportedly injuring himself when celebrating against Arsenal.

The forward scored twice in the 3-2 victory over Arsenal on Thursday, but his trademark “siu” celebration after the winning penalty could be the reason why he misses Sunday’s match at home to Crystal Palace.

A report in The Sun claims Ronaldo is a big doubt for the match at Old Trafford as he may have hurt his knee during the celebration.

Ronaldo remained on the pitch after scoring in the 70th minute, although he was eventually substituted in the 88th minute and replaced by Anthony Martial.

His absence would be a blow for Rangnick, who in his first press conference as United’s interim boss praised the 36-year-old for his unique levels of fitness.

“At his age, I have never seen a player who is still that physically fit, and he is a player who can still easily make the difference,” Rangnick said.

Having been in the stands to watch Ronaldo inspired United against Arsenal, Rangnick also dismissed concerns the five-time Ballon d’Or winner would struggle to adapt to the German’s footballing philosophy.

“You always have to adapt your style and way of playing to the players you have available, not vice versa, and having seen Cristiano in the second half at the age of 36, amazing, a top professional,” Rangnick added.

“It’s about how can we develop the whole team, not only Cristiano. We play in the most competitive league in the world so we need to get these players on board.

“What I saw from Cristiano, he is more than willing to do that and put his input into the team and his team-mates will have to do the same.”
