Another round of Premier League fixtures has been thrown into Covid chaos – and at the most congested time of the calendar.
In the last gameweek, Tottenham saw their trip to Brighton postponed following a number of positive tests at Hotspur Way.
In midweek, Brentford’s fixture against Manchester United was postponed at the 11th hour, while it’s still yet to be confirmed whether Spurs’ trip to Leicester will go ahead.
That means Fantasy Premier League managers will be keeping a close eye on developments but may sway towards the other eight games which will take place barring any other late hiccups.
Liverpool and Manchester City can both boost their goal difference against Newcastle and Leeds respectively, while Everton’s miserable run of form – one win in their last 10, with seven defeats – under Rafa Benitez is expected to get even worse as the Toffees travel to Chelsea.
Here are i‘s pick for the latest gameweek:
Alisson (Liverpool)
The Liverpool goalkeeper has more FPL points than any other player in his position this season.
The Reds have conceded just one goal from their last five league games and that was a meaningless consolation for Everton from Demarai Gray in the Merseyside derby.
They face Newcastle, with only Norwich, Burnley and Southampton having scored fewer goals this term and who are still averaging less than a goal a game since Eddie Howe officially took charge for the first time in the defeat to Arsenal.
Price: £6.0m Points: 72 Gameweek 17 fixture: Newcastle (h)
Reece James (Chelsea)
James has been in quieter form lately when it comes to FPL points but he has registered double figures on four occasions this season.
With four goals and the same number of assists in the Premier League, he has scored as many as Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Roberto Firmino.
James is the league’s highest-scoring defender in 2021-22 and he faces an Everton side in disarray, and who have kept just one keep clean sheet in 10. It could be the perfect time for him to rediscover his form.
Price: £6.3m Points: 76 Gameweek 17 fixture: Everton (h)John McGinn (Aston Villa)
Outside the traditional “Big Six”, only James Maddison and Conor Gallagher are ranking higher in the FPL’s form category.
The 27-year-old only has the three goals to show for his efforts this season but he continues to pick up bonus points.
He is also one of the cheaper options if you’ve bulked out the midfield with the likes of Mohamed Salah (£13.1m) and Son Heung-Min (£10.3m).
Price: £5.8m Points: 57 Gameweek 17 fixture: Norwich (a)Raheem Sterling (Man City)
The revival continues. Pep Guardiola will still be unsure for how much longer he’ll be able to count on Sterling as his contract ticks down and there is a very real possibility of him leaving the Etihad in the January transfer window.
For now, though, he has scored in consecutive games against Wolves and Watford.
Manchester City face Leeds, who continue to float dangerously close to the relegation zone after shipping three goals last time out against Chelsea.
Price: £10.6m Points: 53 Gameweek 17 fixture: Leeds (h)Conor Gallagher (Crystal Palace)
Gallagher’s spectacular second goal against Everton was one of the highlights of gameweek 16.
It was part of a brace that saw the 21-year-old score more FPL points over the course of the weekend than anyone other than Jorginho and Youri Tielemans (that said, Jorginho’s two goals were both penalties, and Tielemans could be out of action if Leicester vs Spurs doesn’t go ahead).
Price: £6.1m Points: 87 Gameweek 17 fixture: Southampton (h)from Fantasy Football – inews.co.uk https://ift.tt/3m5GJhD
