The FA is set to investigate after Richarlison threw a flare after scoring the opening goal for Everton against Chelsea, i understands.
The Brazilian dispossessed Cesar Azpilicueta on the edge of the box, leaving Demarai Gray to tee up the assist as Richarlison cut across Edouard Mendy and into the far corner.
In the celebrations, a lit blue flare was thrown onto the pitch by supporters, which Richarlison was seen picking up and throwing. While he appeared to throw the flare in the direction of the crowd, the incident took place in a corner of Goodison Park which contains an area without supporters and it is unclear where the object landed.
In February, Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott was contacted by the FA after handling a red flare at Wembley after his side’s Carabao Cup final victory over Chelsea. “Harvey is a very young man on the pitch,” Jurgen Klopp said afterwards. “And outside he is still a little bit more a boy.”
Richarlison was eventually taken off in the 80th minute, having earlier required treatment after a coming together in which he was deemed to have fouled Reece James.
Everton also had two penalty appeals turned down, one for a dubious handball call against James and another for an apparent push by Thiago Silva on Gray.
The hosts had Jordan Pickford to thank for a spectacular save that preserved their lead as they continue to battle against relegation. Burnley’s 2-1 victory at Watford on Saturday had left Everton five points adrift in the relegation zone but with a game in hand.
