Kalvin Phillips limped off in the early stages of England’s Nations League match at Germany on Tuesday night.
The Leeds United midfielder was involved in a collision with soon-to-be Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, whose knee appeared to catch Phillips in the thigh.
Phillips received treatment after going down in the ninth minute, and though he initially tried to carry on, he went to ground for a second time before hobbling off to be replaced by Jude Bellingham.
Moments after coming off, Phillips was seen shaking his head on the bench as he was attended to by an England physio, with strapping then applied around his thigh.
The injury for Phillips compounds a difficult campaign where the 26-year-old made just 20 Premier League appearances for Leeds.
Phillips is a certain starter at club level when fit, but a hamstring issue saw him miss 15 straight league games for Leeds from December until March.
He returned to face Southampton in early April, and then played a full 90 minutes in each of Leeds’ last six games, which included their final-day win at Brentford to avoid relegation.
Meanwhile, Phillips has been the subject of interest from a number of Premier League clubs.
Last year, his agent told i Phillips was not interested in a move elsewhere, but rumours persist and it remains to be seen whether he will sign a contract extension at the club.
His current deal expires in 2024, while Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Manchester United are among the clubs to have been linked with the midfielder.
The Telegraph claim Leeds are in ongoing talks over a new contract, but his estimated value of £50-60m could tempt the club if such an offer is made.
Phillips wasn’t the only England player to sustain a knock as both Kieran Trippier and Raheem Sterling also received treatment during the first-half, before managing to continue.
