Premier League clubs are wasting little time in upgrading their squads ahead of the 2022-23 season with a number of big deals completed already this summer.
Manchester City moved quickly to secure themselves a new centre forward, with Erling Haaland joining from Borussia Dortmund before Pep Guardiola’s side had even wrapped up the league title.
The 21-year-old struck 86 goals in only 89 games for the Bundesliga club and will be expected to provide a focal point and cutting edge that City occasionally lacked last term.
City’s nearest title challengers Liverpool have added promising playmaker Fabio Carvalho to their ranks, with the teenager joining from Fulham. The Reds have also moved ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Benfica striker Darwin Nunez, possibly to replace Sadio Mane who is a target for Bayern Munich.

Manchester United are yet to provide Erik ten Hag with any new players but the rebuilding job is already underway with Paul Pogba, Jesse Lingard, Edinson Cavani, Juan Mata and Nemanja Matic all moving on.
Chelsea’s new owners will have to invest in the club’s backline following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen, while Cesar Azpilicueta and Marcos Alonso could also be on the move. Romelu Lukaku is angling for a return to Inter after a disappointing year in west London.
Newcastle are expected to busy and 19-year-old Reims striker Hugo Ekitike features high on their shortlist. i understands that Eddie Howe wants to add three more first-team players once the Frenchman has joined, with Matt Targett already signed up permanently after spending the second half of last season on loan from Aston Villa.
Elsewhere, Villa have provided significant backing to Steven Gerrard with Philippe Coutinho and Diego Carlos brought in for big fees and the highly-rated Boubacar Kamara signed on a free from Marseille, while Leeds have raided Jesse Marsch’s former club Red Bull Salzburg for midfielder Brenden Aaronson and right back Rasmus Kristensen.
The summer transfer window will officially open for business on Friday 10 June and close at 11pm on Thursday 1 September.

Everton must sell to buy in the summer transfer window as they begin a summer overhaul aimed at correcting the huge mistakes that led to a relegation battle.
As revealed in the i in April, the Toffees are interested in Burnley defender James Tarkowski, who is a free agent after the Clarets were relegated. They are also one of a number of Premier League clubs with an interest in Hull’s young star Keane Lewis-Potter, who is rated at around £30million.
Director of football Kevin Thelwell and boss Frank Lampard are targeting “young and hungry” players to refresh the squad.
But Everton’s financial situation means they must sell players to generate funds to reinvest.

Analysis: Signing loan stars should be Forest’s top priority

The most noticeable aspect of the victory ceremony was not the trophy lift, the players dancing nor the heady, final rendition of Mull of Kintyre for the season, but the repeated chant when certain individuals – Philip Zinckernagel, James Garner, Djed Spence, Keinan Davis – were announced to the crowd: “Sign him up, sign him up, sign him up”.
That is reflective of the uncertainty – albeit with an emphatically positive tinge – that Forest face this summer. Each of the loanees lapped up the chant, asking fans to sing it louder and longer. Cooper has built something that they clearly want to remain part of, but it is not all their choice. Johnson, the new apple of Nottingham’s eye, told supporters that he can’t wait to play for the club in the Premier League and received the biggest cheer of the afternoon.
Forest’s best strategy is surely to continue this season’s blueprint. Keep as many of that aforementioned list as possible, if the fees are not outrageous. Target the cream of the Championship. Buy younger players who have high sell-on values and can be sculpted by Cooper. If this exceptional coach has one specific talent above all others, it is the development of youth. The young players in this Forest squad love him dearly.

Word’s been getting round football circles in recent weeks that the Spurs x Conte collaboration could be on the verge of causing a surprise in the season ahead. That Tottenham are a good summer transfer window away from seriously loosening the stranglehold of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea on English football.
Clearly Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has smelt something in the Hotspur Way air. Levy’s decision to convince majority shareholders ENIC Sports Inc to make £150 million available would not have been made lightly.
And looking at Conte’s record, it’s easy to see why people are so captivated by his thrall. Everything he touches turns to silverware.
