The Premier League season will be paused for over a month from mid-November until Boxing Day in order to accommodate the winter running of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, meaning all 20 squads will lose a plethora of players to their international sides just under halfway through the domestic campaign.
Clubs challenging at the top of the table typically have more players competing at the World Cup than those fighting against relegation, but the makeup of the 32 international sides which qualified for Qatar means that some elite level players will be staying at home, including Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland, and Jorginho.
Of course, it is impossible to correctly guess every player who will be selected in all of the 26-man squads heading to the Middle East, and injuries can always curtail hopes, but reputations, recent call-ups and form all give us a good idea of who is likely to be on international duty rather than training in England come the end of the year.

What the numbers say
If the above estimations are roughly accurate, it looks like Manchester City will have the most players at the World Cup of any Premier League club, with 13 players pretty much guaranteed to be selection and Julian Alvarez a strong candidate to join them.
The City figure is significantly higher than that of total rivals Liverpool, who may only have seven players competing in the tournament.
At the other end of the scale, Everton could only have a single squad member travelling if the likes of Conor Coady and Dominic Calvert-Lewin are unable to oust rivals from Gareth Southgate’s England selection, while Southampton and Bournemouth are also set to be among the least-represented sides in the Gulf state.
