The TV schedule for the Qatar 2022 World Cup group stages have been announced by ITV and BBC a week after a draw which placed England in Group B alongside Iran, USA and either Ukraine, Scotland or Wales.
England’s first match against Iran, and their match against the final European qualifier (Wales, Scotland or Ukraine) will be broadcast by the BBC.
The Three Lions’ game against the USA will be live on ITV, and the channel also have the first and second picks of the round of 16 fixtures and the first choice of the quarter-final ties. If Wales or Scotland qualify, ITV will show their group match against USA.
The BBC will get the first pick of the semi-finals. The broadcaster will also show group games featuring Spain, Germany, Brazil, Serbia, Argentina and Poland. All of Belgium’s matches will be on BBC.
ITV have games featuring Argentina, Germany, Spain, and Portugal and they will also be showing the first match of the whole tournament, which takes place between Netherlands and Senegal. It was originally set to be hosts Qatar, as is tradition, but they have been moved to a prime slot local time.
“The World Cup is now in focus and we’re delighted to be able to bring viewers coverage of what promises to be some of the standout games of the tournament across ITV channels and our new free streaming service ITVX, which launches this autumn,” said Niall Sloane, ITV Director of Sport.
“The ITV Sport team is now looking forward to bringing viewers the very best of the first winter World Cup.”
All ITV games will be shown on ITV, ITVX, STV and STV Player.
