The Premier League is back, bringing with it the frenzy of excitement that only a new fantasy football season can bring.
Like every year, you’ve prepared for the Fantasy Premier League with the attention to detail of a real manager, sculpting your squad and analysing all the fixtures and team news ahead of the opening weekend.
You might have convinced yourself otherwise but we all know it won’t last. A Friday night fixture or double gameweek will catch you out and you’ll forget to update your team, realising too late that a slew of injuries has left your season in tatters.

When is the Gameweek 1 FPL deadline?
The deadline for submitting your squads (complete with your hilarious team name) for Gameweek 1 is at 6.30pm on Friday 5 August, ahead of Crystal Palace vs Arsenal.
As was the case last year, the deadline for submitting transfers is 90 minutes before the first Premier League match of the weekend gets underway at 8pm.
What’s new in Fantasy Premier League?
Two big changes will come into effect this season: managers can enable two-factor authentication to increase security of their accounts and they can make unlimited transfers from Saturday 12 November to Monday 26 December while the World Cup is being played in Qatar.
Over the past couple of seasons numerous FPL managers have reported that their teams have been “hacked” with mischievous troublemakers (or else dastardly mini-league rivals… ) making multiple transfers to rival squads to incur monstrous points hits.
Although seeing a friend’s team decimated in such fashion can provide a source of entertainment, you wouldn’t want it to happen to your own team: adding an extra layer of security, therefore, can only be a positive step.
The second addition, meanwhile, will effectively give managers three Wildcards to use during the 2022-23 season: one before 12 November, one during the World Cup and another from Boxing Day until the end of the campaign.
It hasn’t been described as such but think of it as a World Cup Wildcard. For the uninitiated, a Wildcard allows managers to make multiple transfers to their team for free.
