Liverpool face a reunion with Real Madrid in the last 16 of the Champions League in a daunting repeat of the 2022 final.
The Reds were beaten 1-0 back in May in Paris and while they have a chance to exact revenge on the side who also beat them in the 2018 showpiece in Kyiv, arguably the most difficult draw possible comes as a result of them failing to top their group.
That is not the only recent final to be reenacted, with 2020 winners Bayern Munich against that year’s runners-up Paris Saint-Germain.
Tottenham have a challenging trip of their own as they face AC Milan but at least enjoy the benefit of hosting the second leg at home.
Manchester City face RB Leipzig, a familiar opponent for Erling Haaland dating back to his days in the Bundesliga, while Chelsea meet Borussia Dortmund.
The European calendar does not return until after the World Cup in Qatar has taken place. The first legs of the last 16 ties will be played across 14-15 and 21-22 February, while the second legs takes place over 7-8 and 14-15 March.
Here’s the draw in full:
- RB Leipzig vs Manchester City
- Club Brugge vs Benfica
- Liverpool vs Real Madrid
- AC Milan vs Tottenham Hotspur
- Eintracht Frankfurt vs Napoli
- Borussia Dortmund vs Chelsea
- Inter Milan vs Poorto
- Paris Saint-Germain vs Bayern Munich
