Cristiano Ronaldo has given an explosive interview to Piers Morgan, in which he says he feels “betrayed” by Manchester United.
Ronaldo rejoined United ahead of last season and won the club’s player of the year award, scoring 24 times in 38 appearances.
But his relationship with the club has rapidly deteriorated. Last month manager Erik ten Hag suspended Ronaldo for refusing to come on as a late substitute against Tottenham last month, and his presence has been something of a dark cloud over the season.
In the interview, Ronaldo said he does not have respect for ten Hag, and claimed he did not feel supported by United after the illness of his baby daughter in the summer. Ronaldo’s son – the little girl’s twin – died at birth in April.
The interview was on the front page of The Sun on Monday, and will air on Morgan’s Piers Morgan Uncensored show this week. Here’s how to watch it.
When is the Ronaldo interview on TV?
Piers Morgan Uncensored: 90 Minutes with Ronaldo is airing on TalkTV in two parts. The first episode is on Wednesday 16 November at 8pm, with the second part at the same time the following night.
How can I watch the interview?
TalkTV is available on Sky Channel 526, Virgin Media Channel 627, Freeview Channel 237 and Freesat Channel 217, as well as via connected TV services and smart devices.
The channel can also be streamed via Amazon Fire TV, Apple TV, Samsung TV Plus (channel 4316) and on YouTube, as well as the Talk.TV website and TalkTV iOS and Android apps.
What has Ronaldo said?
Ronaldo said he had been made a “black sheep” blamed for everything that has gone wrong at United, and that he believes he is being forced out of the club.
He was publicly keen to leave in the summer to play Champions League football, but United blocked him.
Of manager ten Hag, who joined United ahead of the season, he said: “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me. If you don’t have respect for me, I’m never gonna have respect for you.”
He also hit out at former teammate Wayne Rooney, who has been a vocal critic of Ronaldo this year. “I don’t know why he criticises me so badly, probably because he finished his career and I’m still playing at high level,” he said. “I’m not going to say that I’m looking better than him. Which is true.”
He claimed United had not progressed as a club since his first stint in Manchester, which ended more than a decade ago. “The progress was zero,” he said. “Since Sir Alex [Ferguson] left, I saw no evolution in the club. Nothing had changed.”
He added: “I think the fans should know the truth. I want the best for the club. This is why I come to Manchester United. But you have some things inside that don’t help reach the top level as City, Liverpool and even now Arsenal… a club with this dimension
